      Hi Robin,
I use a Learning Management System, Moodle, to present several lesson including instructional videos. There are over 30 videos in the Level 1 class and 46 in the Level 2 class. I do speak during the videos to demonstrate and explain the techniques. Then the students share their work in a closed facebook group to share, collaborate and support each other. The materials are available for one year. I hope that answers your questions. Let me know if you need more info. Sheryl

      Hi Susan,
When you sign up, you are enrolled in a Prepare class to make sure you and your computer are ready to go(10 min). Inside that class is the material list so you can be sure to get everything that you need.

        Hi Jackie,
The Macbook Pro is fine. I’ve got an iMac. There is no face-to-face time, like Skype. All the class material is reading text and watching narrated videos and then sharing your paintings on Facebook. Everything should be fine.

    • sherylwil October 26, 2015 / 5:45 pm

      Hi Terry,
The class is available for a year with prerecorded narrated videos and text lessons. There is a text version of each week’s lessons so the only time you would need to be on the net would be to watch the videos and to share your paintings on Facebook. Week one has 13 videos, total time about an hour; Week two has 8 videos, total time 50 minutes, and Week three has 7 videos, total time about an hour.
Let me know if you have any additional questions. We’d love to have you join the class.

How often do you offer classes? I would love to take the #1 class ( and eventually the others!) but have a hectic schedule through the first of the year. Should I sign up now and have it online or will there be a new start up in January? I hate to miss out on interactions from others if I have questions.

    Hi Sheryl,
I live in NORTHERN Ontario Canada, and I am wondering if the products and tools etc. you suggest would have equal substitutions.
I have found that many of the tools, surfaces and inks used by others on the various Facebook groups or You Tube videos etc. are not always available here in Canada, and some are especially tricky or expensive to deliver to me here.
    Cheers, Tamara

      Hi Tamara,
So nice to hear from you. There are several alcohol ink artists living in Canada. I can see if there is anyone in Northern Ontario. The main product is the alcohol ink. It can be in either liquid or marker form. A lot of the other products are household products for manipulating the inks. The main substrate used is Yupo Paper. Tiles in the hardward store are a good substitute as is glossy photo paper. The optional items are masking fluid used by watercolor artists, brushes and ink pens.
Let me know what you think and I’ll see if I can find someone near to you.

Hi Marian, so nice to hear from you. The inks are really exciting to work with because they are so vibrant. I do have students in England, the Netherlands and New Zealand. The time zone doesn’t matter because you can work on the classes any time you want. There is new material each week for three/four weeks. This includes videos that you can watch anytime. You paint and then post a picture of your paintings to a Facebook group where other members of the class can share and comment.
As far as materials – you have the inks so that’s the main thing. We paint on Yupo paper which I have to buy online from Cheapjoes.com In the beginning class a lot of the materials are items you can find at the grocery store like cotton balls and Qtips. I can see if there are any members of the big alcohol ink Facebook community that live in Ireland if you like.
I hope you decide to join us,

      Regards,
      Sheryl

    Hi Sheryl,
I have been working with alcohol ink for 6 months. I started painting with watercolor 10 years ago so this was a very natural step for me. Can one take Level 1 and Level 2 at the same time? I want to be challenged, but at the same time don’t want to miss anything. I have painted many paintings similar to the one posted in the Level 1 class. The one technique I have not experimented with much is pouring. Please advise.

Thanks for your response. I looked at your website and you would be fine starting with Level 2. The answer to your question “can you take Level 1 and Level 2 at the same time” is yes. But there is a review of Level 1 inside Level 2 so if the only thing missing is pouring, you can start with Level 2.
Let me know what you would like to do. I’m exciting to have you join us. I also started with watercolor and try to bring some of those techniques to the inks.

      Best,
      Sheryl

Sheryl, I have been working with alcohol inks since January. I am absolutely hooked. I have mostly painted in water color in the past. Can I start out with Level 2 class since I already know the basics just from trial and error and you tube views. I am a member of PMP and you can see some of my art there under my name Jeanne Stanford. My desire is to get more detail in my work. I don’t want to waste a lot of money on supplies that won’t work for me like I did with my Chameleon markers. I can see from other comments and your videos that you can really help me get better at this medium.
